Museum Catalogue #12B: UWA25800 - UWA27283

SpecimensUniversity of Western Australia Edward de Courcy Clarke Earth Science Museum

There are several fossil type specimens in this catalogue. (A type specimen is a preserved specimen designated as a permanent reference for a new species and is, therefore, highly important to our collection.) Please transcribe the full genus and species with care, as well as the full reference for the paper if you can find it online in the Biodiversity Heritage Library.

Each rock, mineral, fossil or meteorite in our collection has all its associated information stored in a written catalogue according to a UWA# - an accession number. For >80% of our collection, this is the only record we have for an item's provenance - where it came from, who collected it and what the item is. Digitising this information will allow us to share the contents of our collection online and make it accessible for research, teaching and earth science outreach.

This particular catalogue contains many fossils collected by Curt Teichert, a German-American palaeontologist and geologist who significantly contributed to Australian geology and set the base for WA’s stratigraphy. Curt and his wife found refuge at the University of Western Australia during Nazi Germany. He worked at UWA from 1937 to 1946.
